19 February 2010: PE Publishing Best Paper Award
The 2009 PE Publishing Best Paper Prize was awarded to E Jones, S C Scholes, I C Burgess, H E Ash, and A Unsworth for their paper entitled Compliant layer bearings in artificial joints. Part 2: simulator and fatigue testing to assess the durability of the interface between an elastomeric layer and a rigid substrate, published in Vol. 223(H1), pp.1-13. This article is freely available online (please note, if a Board member is a co-author on a paper nominated for a prize, the Board member will abstain from participation in the decision making process).
23 June 2009: Increase in Impact Factor
We are pleased to announce that the Journal's Impact Factor for 2008 is 1.402. This is almost a 100% increase on the 2007 figure.
1 June 2009: Part H to become monthly publication in 2010
We are delighted to announce that starting in 2010, the Journal of Engineering in Medicine will move from eight to twelve issues per year.
06 May 2009: Special issue on Biomedical Engineering Education
A Special issue on Biomedical Engineering Education was published in the May issue of the Journal (Vol 223, H4). The Guest Editorial and the papers are free to view online until the end of August 2009.
12 March 2009: PE Publishing Best Paper Award
The 2008 PE Publishing Best Paper Prize was awarded to Q Long, R Merrifield, X Y Xu, P Kilner and D M Firmin for their paper entitled Subject-specific computational simulation of left ventricular flow based on magnetic resonance imaging, published in Vol. 222(H4), pp.475-485. This article is freely available online.
12 March 2009: Duncan Dowson Prize
The Duncan Dowson Prize was awarded to JA Kaupp and SD Waldman for their paper Mechanical vibrations increase the proliferation of articular chondrocytes in high-density culture, published in Vol. 222 (H5), pp. 695-703. This paper is free to view online.
5 February 2009: Special Issues
The Journal of Engineering in Medicine has an active programme of Special Issues and the following issues are currently in preparation: Ultrasonic Imaging and Therapy, Image Guided Surgery, Engineering the Upper Limb, and Micro-technologies for Surgery.
14 May 2008: Free Online Papers
The Paper by J M Meswania, S J G Taylor, and G W Blum entitled Design and characterization of a novel permanent magnet synchronous motor used in a growing prosthesis for young patients with bone cancer, published in Vol. 222, issue H3 is now free- to-view online. This paper has been highlighted for its high quality and innovative research.
